KARAMANOĞULLARI AND THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE AGE (1299-1923)
Ereğli had a great importance in the reign of Ottoman Empire. In 1389 Yıldırım Beyazıt attached Ereğli to the Ottoman Empire. Mosques, caravanserais, turkish baths, bedestens(vaulted and fireproof part of a bazaar where valuable goods are kept) that are the most splendid works of Ereğli belong to this era. At Ereğli Museum the Quran-ı Kerim inlaid with gold, trousseau chest, three skirts, bindallı(a kind of clothing), cepken(a short embroidered jacket with full sleeves), carpet, rug, weapon, coin and metalic kitchen objects are exhibited in the etnographic part.
 
From the time its foundation, Ereğli proved all the time that it had been an important place because of its geographical position. Ereğli attracted the beings interest and caused the formation of varied cultures for thousands of ages by its roads stretching toward east-north and south and the fertile lands irrigated by İvriz stream.
